Moving to Spain was something we always wanted to do, at some point in our lives and in 2006 we discovered the perfect location - Arenas Del Rey. In the heart of Andalucía, We found an almond grove, with a wonderful view of the lake "Pantano de Los Bermejales" surrounded by the soft mountain tops of the "Sierra de Tejeda".

In 2008 the real adventure started. Building the house of our dreams has been an exciting story of endurance and setbacks. We live remotely and completely off-grid, relying on solar panels and batteries, with water from our own well.

We have decided to keep running Odulce as a small-scale agricultural project, with the time-consuming task of picking the almonds taking place in September, after which they are sold through a local cooperative. So our lodgings are classed as a form of Agritourism.

Another current project involves a more sinister side of Andalucía. Sadly, in these rural areas, animals are often seen as a tool, rather than a living creature and this attitude is reflected in the way many people treat their animals. Over the last few years, we have worked together with friends in the area to set up an organisation that gives stray dogs a new home. The registered charity is called ASAP (Alhama Street Animal Protection) and it has already given more than 500 dogs a better life

Do you consider yourself an animal friend and are you looking to adopt a dog? This is possible. We are also constantly looking for flight companions! For more information click here
